Kauri Springs Lodge invites you to make full use of our extensive private gardens and outdoor facilities. Our very private location is surrounded by several outdoor settings, large rainforest palms, rare exotic plants and other gorgeous subtropical and native plants.
The gardens are lit extensively, allowing guests to wander the property in the evenings. Coloured outdoor lighting creates a beautiful atmosphere that highlights the plants and sculptures in the well-tended garden.
The saltwater spa pool
Our star attraction is the Polynesian-style spa pool which seats up to seven guests and uses a state-of-the-art saltwater sanitising system (as opposed to chlorine). The spa contains over 30 jets and includes a multi-zone lighting system and integrated sound system. Water in the spa is replaced prior to each new group of guests and our handcrafted outdoor shower offers both hot and cold water for the pre- and post-spa rinse. The spa pool is tucked in the gardens so guests can take in the natural beauty of the surrounds while enjoying a relaxing soak.
The Garden Bar
The Balinese-style outdoor bar, located in the Pavilion area beside the Lodge House, is the perfect place for socialising. The uniquely-shaped concrete bar is built is surrounded with coloured LED and festoon light that really sets off the space in the evenings. This year-round weatherproof space offers guests an entertaining space that takes in the garden views, and to add to the foliage in this space, large hanging baskets of sub-tropical plants suspend from the impressive wooden beams of the Pavilion.
Private sub-tropical gardens
As you enter the enclosed driveway, visitors are rewarded with a green wonderland that owner James has been lovingly tending for just a little over a decade. With lofty nikau and groves of established kauri, winding paths lead to secluded nooks for reflection and relaxation. Spectacular views of the garden can be viewed from a number of vantage points in and around the grounds.
Our surrounding private gardens create an atmosphere of tranquillity with lush foliage and large water features adorning the upper path. These water features are a favourite bathing spot for native birds. At night, the outdoor facilities and pathways are all well-lit; and with some well-placed coloured lighting, the garden takes on a magical ambiance - perfect for alfresco dining.
The flora and fauna
With its towering trees and rich native planting, the extensive sub-tropical four acre garden surrounding the Lodge has a distinctive blend of large native and European trees. Some very dense native bush surround the property and rising up above the homestead a plethora of paths can be discovered with an interestingly wide selection of plantings all beautifully enveloped on multiple levels, giving the garden its lush sub-tropical theme.
This mature garden has a large selection of palms (such as Nikau, Kentia, Sugar Cane, Majestic, Bismark and King Palms). Palms surround the saltwater spa pool and three large tranquil water features set them off in a very private lush bush setting, giving the garden a tropical Balinese feel.
Up above, all manner of native birds, from rotund kereru perching heavily in branches to flitting tui splashing in giant water features; dramatic urns that have become accidental bird baths. And be sure to look for the native trout that dwell in the natural spring at the bottom of the garden as you seek out works of art scattered throughout the garden.
